Well folks after a bit of a kerfuffle involving losing our October speaker (not down the side of the couch) and a spot of bother confirming dates with our venue, we're back in action. It's been a good month, the new site is up and running and we've started publishing people's posts on the blog.

Anyway, without getting off topic, we're here to divulge some information about our next talk! As I'm sure many of you are aware, WordPress is the largest blogging platform in world with almost 63 million sites out there using it. Over the years, not only has WordPress cemented itself as a solid blogging platform but intrepid developers dared to use it as a full content management system leading to growth of the feature set and overall versatility. Our talk this month looks at just that with Jamie Fraser joining us from Arborath based Hitreach.

Jamie, lead developer at Hit Reach, started his first web design job during his first year at university. He is experienced in (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MYSQL and is currently looking at HTML5 and CSS3. He also has a large amount of experience in everything WordPress.

Rather than us making up some nonsense, Jamie has given us a wee breakdown of is talk:

"WordPress is the most widely used CMS on the planet. Jamie from Hit Reach introduces it and highlights some of the plugins and practises which have made it much more than a blogging tool. After a brief introduction to the platform we will look at the benefits of using WordPress as a CMS for both the client and the developer and highlight some of the most popular features. We’ll look at a small selection of plugins which extend the uses far beyond simple blogging and page management before demonstrating the key functions developers can use to produce custom solutions for their clients. We’ll wrap up with some case studies of companies using WordPress in creative ways before opening up for any questions from the audience."

Not only have these guys agreed to give a talk but they're also going to put on a big tasty buffet for us food loving tech folk! you can't ask for more than that.
